lll We drank the Great Lakes
like cold lemonade,
and both got stomachaches,
sprawled out in the shade.
So bored to death you held your breath,
as I tried not to yawn.
You made my frown turn upside down,
and now my worries are gone. lll
lll Spring is here again. It is so beautiful outside. I experienced 4 beautiful things:
1) On my bus ride home from school a few days ago, I saw a little Mennonite girl in a bright yellow dress. She was standing in a large cornfield, flying a kite (the diamond-shaped kind with four colors that you see in a picture book.)
2) A rather heavy rainstorm. I love those storms in which the sky is still very light, but the rain comes down hard.
3) During the rainstorm, I heard a solitary bird singing. That was the most beautiful moment. It practically made me melt with pleasure.
4) A ravishing song, called Emily. I forget who it's by, but it's simply beautiful... it varies so much in music. No chorus, no verses. Just music. lll

Photoshooting & Failed Attempts

lll I have never been able to take more than a decent shot on a camera, so what erupted from my boredom yesterday came as a surprise. Late last night, I pulled out 1) my old digital Sony, 2) a couple of roses that had had been left from a recent birthday, 3) a few candles from of the old hutch; then I spread them out on the formal oak table and started shooting photos. I must have taken at least fifty, but the turnout was only three or four pictures worthy of keeping. Even later, I came up with another theme due to a mix of creativity and insomniac exhaustion: trash. I crumpled pieces of yellow legal pad paper and scrap paper, then set the scene with the antique, beautiful rusty red trash can (set with a faded golden eagle) on its side, the "trash" spilling out in a perfect array. This took quite a few tries, and after half an hour, I had to stop because the ancient battery on my Cyber-Shot was dead.
Today, following church and a party at someone's farm-mansion (which, may I add, was exquisite), I came home and sank into the blue damask couch. I was, once again, bored. So I drifted upstairs, and, upon wandering listlessly into the bathroom, my eyes fell on a tray of 12 different colors of eyeshadow, the kind you find in the stores with pink and purple swirls all over their shopping bags. Realizing that I had nothing better to do with my time, and nowhere to go for at least four hours, I decided to try my hand with this cheap stuff. So with the little teeny brush that came with the set, I smeared a bluish-purple color across my eyelids, the whole way up to my eyebrows. Then, completely inspired by the 1970's look that the makeup gave across, I rummaged through the drawers and cabinets surrounding the Broadway-dressing-room-surrounded-with-millions-of-lightbulbs-mirror. I came up with an old bottle of pale foundation that had to be bad for the skin, a tube of glitter-infested pink "(s)cream", and a handful of bobby pins, there completing my vintage look. I came out with two new hobbies: running on no sleep, and using boredom as an excuse to do dumb things (until 2012, when I still don't think the world will end, but who knows?) lll
